Beyond
the Frame
On Saturday, November 13, 2004 the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre kicked off its 11th annual gala fundraising art auction at 5:30 p.m., hoping to eclipse last year’s proceeds of $37,500. Over 40 paintings, sculptures, ceramics and glass works were featured in this annual exhibition which culminates in an evening party and live auction. This event showcased a wide range of works by artists from this region and includes examples of Inuit sculpture and engraving. Last year a record breaking price of $2,800 was achieved for a painting on handmade paper by Guelph artist Cheryl Ruddock.
A special feature of this event included the silent auction of 8 decorated pieces of furniture by art students from Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute and 16 framed mirrors designed by art students from St. James Catholic High School.
